Pop music sucks so let’s do something about it!
We hear it all the time! We see it all the time! Pop Music SUCKING is discussed from dinner tables to blogs to beyond, across the land. It’s time we shift our focus from one of lamentation and explanation to something far more reactionary! It’s time to counter-punch the homogenization of pop music in the face, hard! Here are four proposals on how to fight back and get some good licks in.
An “Early MTV-Vibes”, Revivalist-Digital Channel
Do It Yourselves, in whatever ways possible. Study MTV in its early days. Study it for all the details that made it exciting and no longer exist pertaining to style, tone, content, energy and so on. Uncompromisingly apply these details to little known, minimally produced, contemporary artists that are both great and unique. Stick to this mission as a beacon of the Avant-Garde and save us all!
Pop Music History Class For The Masses
Take an academic approach; put the current state of Pop Music on substantive blast as compared to eras of the past. Stimulate and inspire the youngest generations with bygone styles that would otherwise be outside their frames of reference. Use historical proof to eradicate doubts regarding whether we can do better and make subsequent rally cries that we do so again.
A Bounty Hunter For Under-Recognized Artists Instead Of Mediocre Criminals
Folks love themselves some Dog but while taking other’s freedom, what’s he really giving them? America is the only major nation in which some individuals hunt and capture others (fugitives) for a monetary reward. It’d be a lot cooler if we were the only major nation in which some individuals search for obscure, society-enhancing artists because it’s the right thing to do!
Small, Live-Music Venues, On A Larger Stage
It seems as though we could harness information-age advancements to turn back the clock in favorable ways. A new school CBGB that leveraged the modern power of an online multi-media channel or reality TV series in the right way could be incredible!
